An Excellent & Awesome Graduation. During the day I had the opportunity to have a korero (talk) with each individual about the CiH programme and their learning experiences. There was an excitement in their korero about "OWNING A COMPUTER" & where their tamariki (children) can use it for homework & school projects. A lot of creativity & ideas emerged to the surface as each whanau spoke about the beginning of their digital learning with the CiH programme. Whanau are very excited to continue with the "PATHWAY LEARNING" & the next steps forward to enhance their digital skills living in the digital world.

2016 CIH GRADUATIONS KAWERAU, WHANGAPARAOA & TE KAHA

Kia Ora Tatou,

During the month of April & May 2016 we will be celebrating some of the Computer in Homes Programme graduations in the Bay of Plenty.  Starting off with Kawerau Graduation scheduled for the 8th of March and graduating on the 8th of April 2016 at Heartlands, Kea Building.  A lot of community activity will be happening during the month of March at the East Coast of the North Island in the Bay of Plenty, including a DIY Marae  on the 17th.  A couple of weeks later it is aired on Maori Whakaata (TV).  East Bay Reap Whakatane are attending the Marae DIY helping out alongside many families that attended the CIH.  Pahaoa computer in homes programme starts on the 9th of March followed by graduation in April 2016.

A lot of kura around the east coast have been closed, so a lot of children will be attending the brand new resourced, well equipped, up-to-date technology Te Kura o Te Mana Maori o Whangaparaoa.  They have a new IT going into their school and have optic fibre.  Not only does this kura cater for the children but also for the community within the area.  TMMOW have been allocated 10 Places and look to commence before May 2016.

The Parents from James Street School waited with excitement, ready to receive their computers to take home to there families.   Some of the group have signed up to the next steps in their digital journey. Feedback from parents;

P.Lawrence    We could now do our CV and look for job opportunities online. 

D. Baker         Having a computer at home will increase my children's knowledge in the digital 

                       world. 

S. Rua            I can now help my daughter (pink Jersey) with her digital homework.

The Principal (Nora) was very happy to see parents at the school participating in the Computer in Homes Programme, as it had been the first time some parents have done so.

A big thankyou to the tutor (Sandra) who delivered the content of the programme with patience & compassion. 

 

 

 

Term 2 Computers

Beginners Computing, Eastbay REAP, Whakatane



These participants are the first lot of beginners this term as the programme is getting popular by demand in the area.  Many students that attend the beginners classes have no or limited knowledge in computers.  This is the first step to the pathway  learning in the digital world followed by the Stepping Up then ICDL.  Confidence is a huge factor that we have seen grow throughout our beginners computing classes.

This is the first day for the Stepping Up group.  Some of these students are from the "Beginners Computing" classes.  The Tutor Lynaire Moeau demonstrates on the projector digital steps to modules:  Office suite 2010, social media and internet.

the learners increase their knowledge surrounding Microsoft word, create email etc.
Everyone has moved on to studying, work experience & building on new skills to their existing ones.
 

Opotiki Graduation

 

Computers in Homes, Eastbay REAP, Paharakeke Early childhood Centre and Eastern Bay of Plenty Ace in Schools joined together to support 16 whanau to complete the Computers in Homes programme.  Many of the learners are completing some kind of study, from Early childhood, Teacher training and through to the basics of foundation learning.  Others are now inspired to pick up further learning.  Being digitally literate is a priority to all these learners.  The programme was a chance to raise foundation skills, strengthen social cohesion within the learning groups.  Congratulations to Kate Adams the tutor, the ladies enjoyed the learning and the laughs.    It was great to see the inspiration and hunger for further learning.
